Bonnie Schearer Scholarship
The Bonnie Shearer Professional Scholarship
Bonnie Shearer was not only inspired to become a PA but also to get involved with the PA profession because of her father, Jesse Edwards. She practiced as a PA in the Department of Pediatrics at UNMC. She served as NAPA president in 1983 and as the Legislative Committee Chair and was instrumental in getting several laws passed advancing the PA profession including LB250 which modernized the PA Practice Act so that PAs and their supervising physicians were able to increase patient access to healthcare in Nebraska. She taught pediatrics to PAs and was involved in coordinating rotations at the UNMC PA Program. She was honored with the NAPA Lifetime Achievement Award in April 2014. Shearer is now retired and living in Arizona. This award is in honor of Bonnie Shearer.
